[Resolved] TEXT field types in plugins

Two of the plugins that I have tried loading, CFNotes and LongCF, have the same initial error: a TEXT field cannot have a default value. Once I correct the problem in the install file, the plugin still fails to load, but there is no error as to why. If the owner of the plugin is not around to fix these, is there a procedure for someone else to do so?

Thanks,
Mitch

It happens whether I download the package and the use the Upload function, or point to the plugin url. I click the 'Submit' button, and get an error when it tries to create any table that has a default value assigned to a TEXT field -- TEXT fields can't have default values. The plugin was successfully unpacked, so now appears in the list of plugins, altho inactive). Then regardless of whether I create the table by hand or edit the install.php, when I try to reattempt the install by clicking the install link, I get the results page that says simply "Installation: Failed", no error messages.
